The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 10:30 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Irving Gerstein, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Black, Eaton, Gerstein, Greene, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Maltais, Massicotte, Ringuette, Rivard and Tkachuk (10).

In attendance: Adriane Yong and Brett Stuckey, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, the committee continued its examination of Bill S-202, An Act to amend the Payment Card Networks Act (credit card acceptance fees). (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 12.)

Tricia Anderson, President and Chief Executive Officer;

Consumers' Association of Canada:

Mel Fruitman, Vice President.

Quebec Food Retailers Association:

Pierre-Alexandre Blouin, Vice President, Public Affairs;

Isabelle Tassé, President, Outaouais Region.

Ontario Restaurant Hotel and Motel Association:

Tony Elenis, President and Chief Executive Officer.

Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers:

Gary Sands, Vice President, Public Policy.

The chair made an opening statement.

Ms. Anderson made a statement and, together with Mr. MacEwen, answered questions.

Mr. Fruitman made a statement and answered questions.

Mr. Blouin made a statement and, together with Ms. Tassé, answered questions.

At 11:40 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:42 a.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Elenis made a statement and answered questions.

Mr. Sands made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:23 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
