The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 9:32 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Callbeck, Day, Chaput, Eaton, Gerstein, Maltais, Mockler and Smith (Saurel) (9).

In attendance: Sylvain Fleury and Raphaëlle Deraspe, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, the committee continued its examination of the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2015. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 8.)

WITNESSES:

Citizenship and Immigration Canada:

Tony Matson, Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Financial Officer;

Catrina Tapley, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic and Program Policy;

Paul Armstrong, Director General, Centralized Processing Region.

Canadian Heritage:

Colleen Swords, Deputy Minister, Financial Management Branch;

Robert Hertzog, Chief Financial Officer and Director General, Financial Management Branch.

Health Canada:

Jamie Tibbetts, Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Financial Officer, Chief Financial Officer Branch;

Sony Perron, Acting Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, First Nations and Inuit Health Branch.

Mr. Matson, Ms. Swords and Mr. Tibbetts each made a statement and, together with Ms. Tapley, Mr. Armstrong, Mr. Hertzog and Mr. Perron, answered questions.

At 11:38 a.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
