The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 6:45 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Chaput, Day, Eaton, Gerstein, McIntyre, Smith (Saurel) and Wallace (8).

In attendance: Sylvain Fleury and Raphaëlle Deraspe, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 14, 2015, the committee continued its examination of subject matter of Bill C-59, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on April 21, 2015 and other measures. (For the complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 32.)

WITNESSES:

Suzanne Legault, Information Commissioner of Canada;

Nancy Bélanger, General Counsel, Director of Legal Services.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police:

Rennie Marcoux, Chief Strategic Policy and Planning Officer;

Peter Henschel, Deputy Commissioner, Specialized Policing Services.

Ms. Legault made a statement and, together with Ms. Bélanger, answered questions.

At 7:44 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:48 p.m., the committee resumed.

Deputy Commissioner Henschel and Ms. Marcoux each made a statement and answered questions.

At 8:30 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
