The Standing Committee on Rules, Procedures and the Rights of Parliament met this day at 9:32 a.m., in room 356-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Vernon White, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Batters, Cools, Enverga, Furey, Jaffer, Joyal, P.C., Martin, McIntyre, Nolin, Smith, P.C. (Cobourg), Unger and White (12).

In attendance: Sebastian Spano, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

The committee considered its business.

The committee began its consideration of a draft report recommending amendments to the Rules of the Senate.

It was agreed that the report be amended

It was agreed that the report, as amended, be adopted and that the chair be authorized to present the report to the Senate.

The committee began its consideration of a draft report recommending further amendments to the Rules of the Senate.

It was agreed that the report be adopted, and that the chair be authorized to present the report to the Senate.

It was agreed to establish a subcommittee composed of the Honourable Senators Joyal, P.C., Nolin and White to consider changes to the Rules that may be required by the possible introduction of broadcasting to the Senate.

At 10:40 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
