The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 1:03 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Daniel Lang, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Dagenais, Day, Kenny, Lang, Mitchell, Ngo, Stewart Olsen and White (9).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Jaffer and Runciman (2).

In attendance: Holly Porteous and Christina Yeung, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on March 24, 2015, the committee continued its examination of the subject matter of Bill C-51, An Act to enact the Security of Canada Information Sharing Act and the Secure Air Travel Act, to amend the Criminal Code, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service Act and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and to make related and consequential amendments to other Acts. The chair made a statement.

Mr. Plouffe, Mr. Doucet and Mr. McPhail each made a statement and, together with Mr. Galbraith, Ms. Bowers and Mr. Evans, answered questions.

At 2:17 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 2:20 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Therrien made a statement and, together with Ms. Fournier-Dupelle, answered questions.

At 2:56 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 3:04 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Atkey and Mr. Cavalluzzo each made a statement and, together, answered questions.

At 3:45 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
