The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day at 4:18 p.m., in room 160- S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable A. Raynell Andreychuk, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Bovey, Cools, Cordy, Dawson, Downe, Gold, Housakos, Marwah, Oh, Patterson, Saint-Germain and Woo (13).

In attendance: Natalie Mychajlyszyn and Simon Richards, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, the committee continued its examination of Bill C-30, An Act to implement the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement between Canada and the European Union and its Member States and to provide for certain other measures. ( For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 20.)

Corinne Pohlmann, Senior Vice President, National Affairs.

Business Council of Canada:

Brian Kingston, Vice President, Policy, International and Fiscal.

Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers' Association:

Mark Nantais, President.

Canadian Generic Pharmaceutical Association:

Jim Keon, President;

Jody Cox, Vice-president, Federal and International Affairs.

Innovative Medicines Canada:

Declan Hamil, Vice-President, Legal, Regulatory and Policy;

Lesia Babiak, Executive Director, Worldwide Government Affairs and Policy (Canada); Johnson & Johnson, Family of Companies in Canada.

The chair made a statement.

The Honourable Senator Dawson moved:

That the papers and evidence received by the committee during its special study on free trade agreements, from any witness who again appears during its study of Bill C-30, An Act to implement the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement between Canada and the European Union and its Member States and to provide for certain other measures, be also considered part of the papers and evidence received during its study of the said bill.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

Mr. Kingston, Ms. Pohlmann and Mr. Nantais made statements and answered questions.

At 5:17 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:22 p.m., the committee resumed.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Keon, Mr. Hamil and Ms. Babiak made statements and, together with Ms. Cox, answered questions.

At 6:20 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
