The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 9:01 a.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Lillian Eva Dyck, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Dyck, Lovelace Nicholas, Maltais, Martin, Meredith, Moore, Oh, Patterson, Raine, Sinclair and Tannas (12).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Watt and Lankin, P.C. (2).
In attendance: Brittany Collier, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November17, 2016, the committee continued its examination of BillS-3, An Act to amend the Indian Act (elimination of sex-based inequities in registration). (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 13.)
Pursuant to rule12-16(d), the committee considered a draft agenda (future business).
At 10:05 a.m., the Honourable Senator Tannas took the chair.
At 10:09 a.m., the Honourable Senator Dyck resumed the chair.
After debate, the Honourable Senator Patterson moved that, pursuant to rule12-23(5), the committee report Bill S-3 to the Senate with the recommendation that the bill should not be proceeded with further.
After debate, the question being put on the motion, it was adopted on the following vote:
