The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day at 5:08 p.m., in room 257, the East Block, the chair, the Honourable Rosa Galvez, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cordy, Galvez, MacDonald, Massicotte, Mockler, Neufeld, Patterson, Richards, Seidman and Wetston (10).

In attendance: Sam Banks and Jesse Good, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, the committee continued its study of the subject matter of those elements contained in Part 5 of Bill C-74, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 27, 2018 and other measures (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 44.)

WITNESSES:

VIA Rail Canada:

Pierre Le Fèvre, Senior Advisor to the President and Chief Executive Officer;

Bruno Riendeau, Director, Safety and Sustainable Development;

Jacques Fauteux, Director, Government and Community Relations.

Railway Association of Canada:

Michael Gullo, Director, Policy, Economic and Environmental Affairs.

National Airlines Council of Canada:

Massimo Bergamini, President and Chief Executive Officer;

Geoffrey Tauvette, Co-Chair, Environment Committee and Director, Fuel and Environment, WestJet.

Canadian Trucking Alliance:

Jonathan Blackham, Director, Policy and Public Affairs.

Mr. Le Fèvre and Mr. Gullo each made a statement and, together with Mr. Fauteux and Mr. Riendeau, answered questions.

At 6 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 6:04 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Blackham and Mr. Bergamini each made a statement and, together with Mr. Tauvette, answered questions.

At 6:58 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair
