The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met this day at 10:32 a.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Bob Runciman, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Batters, Boisvenu, Dagenais, Jaffer, Joyal, P.C., McIntyre, Plett, Runciman and White (9).
In attendance: Julian Walker and Maxime Charron-Tousignant, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 12, 2016, the committee began its consideration of Bill S-225, An Act to amend the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (Substances used in the production of fentanyl).
WITNESSES:

Rod Klassen, Staff Sergeant, Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams.
Levern Health Clinic:
Dr. Susan Christenson, Family physician (by video conference).
Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police:
Trevor Daroux, Deputy Chief, Calgary Police Service.
Ontario Centre of Forensic Sciences:
Karen Woodall, Toxicologist.
As an individual:
Marie Agioritis.
The chair made a statement.
Dr. Christenson and Mr. Klassen each made a statement and, together, answered questions.
At 11:27 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 11:34 a.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Daroux, Ms. Woodall and Ms. Agioritis each made a statement and, together, answered questions.
At 12:23 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
