The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met this day at 4:21 p.m., in room 257, East Block, for the purpose of holding its reorganization meeting, pursuant to the order of the Senate of November 7, 2017.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Batters, Boisvenu, Boniface, Dupuis, Gold, Joyal, P.C., McIntyre, Pate and White (9).
In attendance: Julian Walker and Maxime Charron-Tousignant, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Geneviève Guindon, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of the Senate of November 7, 2017, the clerk of the committee presided over the election of the chair.
The Honourable Senator McIntyre moved:
That the Honourable Senator Joyal, P.C., do take the chair of this committee.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
The clerk invited Senator Joyal, P.C., to take the chair.
The chair presided over the election of the deputy chairs.
The Honourable Senator Boniface moved:
That the Honourable Senator Boisvenu be deputy chair of this committee.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
The Honourable Senator White moved:
That the Honourable Senator Dupuis be deputy chair of this committee.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
The Honourable Senator Pate moved:
That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be composed of the chair and the two deputy chairs; and
That the subcommittee be empowered to make decisions on behalf of the committee with respect to its agenda, to invite witnesses, and to schedule hearings.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 4:40 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
