The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met this day at 4:25 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Serge Joyal, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Batters, Boisvenu, Boniface, Carignan, P.C., Dupuis, Eaton, Gold, Joyal, P.C., McIntyre, Pate and Pratte (11).

In attendance: Julian Walker and Maxime Charron-Tousignant, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Chantale Lamarche, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, December 14, 2017, the committee continued its examination of Bill C-46, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (offences relating to conveyances) and to make consequential amendments to other Acts. At 5:36 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:40 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Edelson, Mr. Boni, Ms. de Whytell and Mr. Rudin a made statement and, together with Mr. Russomanno, answered questions.

At 6:33 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
