The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met this day at 10:37 a.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Serge Joyal, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Batters, Boisvenu, Boniface, Carignan, P.C., Dalphond, Dasko, Dawson, Dupuis, Frum, Joyal, P.C., Pate and Pratte (12).

In attendance: Julian Walker and Laurence Brosseau, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, the committee continued its examination of Bill C-76, An Act to amend the Canada Elections Act and other Acts and to make certain consequential amendments. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 53.)

At 12:44 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 12:46 p.m., the committee resumed.

The Honourable Senator Batters moved:

That the committee remain in public to discuss the draft report.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted, on division.

At 1:23 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
