The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 8:15 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Christmas, Gold, Hartling, MacDonald, Manning, McInnis, Poirier, Raine, Ringuette and Watt (9).
In attendance: Odette Madore, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on November 23, 2017, the committee continued its examination of Bill S-238, An Act to amend the Fisheries Act and the Wild Animal and Plant Protection and Regulation of International and Interprovincial Trade Act (importation of shark fins).

At 9:15 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business) and a draft special study budget application.
At 9:19 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 9:20 a.m., the committee resumed in public.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 14, 2016, the committee continued its study on Maritime Search and Rescue activities, including current challenges and opportunities. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 4.)
It was agreed that the following budget application for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2018, in relation to a special study on Maritime Search and Rescue activities, including current challenges and opportunities, be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration.
