OTTAWA, Wednesday, June 8, 2016

The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence, to which was referred Bill C-7, An Act to amend the Public Service Labour Relations Act, the Public Service Labour Relations and Employment Board Act and other Acts and to provide for certain other measures, met this day at 12:36 p.m. to give clause-by-clause consideration to the bill.

The Chair: Welcome, colleagues, to the Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence. As you know, we're going to be dealing with Bill C-7. I would first like to begin by having members introduce themselves, starting with the deputy chair.

Senator Jaffer: Mobina Jaffer from British Columbia.

Senator Dagenais: Jean-Guy Dagenais from Quebec.

Senator Campbell: Larry Campbell from British Columbia.

Senator Day: Joseph Day from New Brunswick.

Senator Enverga: Tobias Enverga from Ontario.

Senator Beyak: Lynn Beyak from Ontario.

Senator White: Vern White from Ontario.

The Chair: I am Senator Dan Lang from Yukon, chair of the committee.

Today, we are dealing with Bill C-7 using the following procedure: We will go in camera for a period of time. We have received a letter from the Minister of Public Safety and from the Minister of the Treasury Board, which all members, I understand, have received in their offices. That will be the first order of business. Second, we will determine the direction we intend to go in terms of Bill C-7.

If we decide we're going to go ahead with proposed amendments, should there be any, we will reconvene in public to deal with the bill clause-by-clause. I hereby move that the committee in camera.
