The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence met this day at 1:15 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Daniel Lang, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Boisvenu, Jaffer, Lang, Lankin, P.C., McIntyre, Moncion, Saint-Germain and Woo (9).

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, May 8, 2017, the committee began its examination of the subject matter of those elements contained in Divisions 12 and 19 of Part 4 of Bill C-44, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 22, 2017 and other measures.

WITNESSES:

Department of Finance Canada:

Lisa Pezzack, Director, Financial Systems Division, Financial Sector Policy Branch;

Maxime Beaupré, Chief, Financial Systems Division, Financial Sector Policy Branch.

Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada:

Dan Lambert, Assistant Director, Intelligence, Operations.

Veterans Affairs Canada:

Faith McIntyre, Director General, Policy and Research Division, Strategic Policy and Commemoration.

The chair made a statement.

Ms. Pezzack made a statement and, together with Mr. Beaupré and Mr. Lambert, answered questions.

At 2:16 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 2:21 p.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. McIntyre made a statement and answered questions.

At 3:08 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 3:12 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera for the consideration of a draft agenda (future business).

At 3:43 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
