The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 10:30 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cordy, Cormier, Eaton, Eggleton, P.C., Frum, Griffin, Hartling, Mégie, Ogilvie, Omidvar, Petitclerc, Raine, Seidman and Stewart Olsen (14).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Enverga and Galvez (2).
In attendance: Sonya Norris, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, the committee continued its examination Bill C-277, An Act providing for the development of a framework on palliative care in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No 30.)
It was agreed that the committee proceed to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-277, An Act providing for the development of a framework on palliative care in Canada.
It was agreed that the title stand postponed.
It was agreed that the preamble stand postponed.
It was agreed that clause 1, which contains the short title stand postponed.
It was agreed that clause 2 carry.

The committee considered observations.
It was agreed that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve the final version of the observations being appended to the report taking into consideration today's discussion and with any necessary editorial, grammatical or translation changes as required.
It was agreed that the chair report the bill, with observations, to the Senate.
At 10:45 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 10:47 a.m., the committee resumed.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, December 12, 2016, the committee began its examination of Bill S-218, An Act respecting Latin American Heritage Month.
