Pursuant to the order of the Senate of March 30, 2021, the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day by videoconference at 4 p.m. [ET], the chair, the Honourable Chantal Petitclerc, presiding. This meeting is considered to have taken place in the parliamentary precinct.
Members of the committee present by videoconference: The Honourable Senators Ataullahjan, Black (Ontario), Bovey, Dasko, Forest-Niesing, Frum, Kutcher, Manning, Martin, Mégie, Moodie and Petitclerc (12).

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, the committee began its examination of Bill S-230, An Act to amend the Citizenship Act (granting citizenship to certain Canadians).

The Honourable Senator Yonah Martin, sponsor of the bill.

Catherine Scott, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic and Program Policy;

The chair made a statement.
The Honourable Senator Martin and Mr. Chapman made statements and answered questions.
At 4:44 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 5:12 p.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Chapman answered questions.
Ms. Scott made a statement and, with Mr. Attfield, answered questions.
It was agreed that the committee proceed to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill S-230.
It was agreed that the title stand postponed.
It was agreed that clause 1 carry.
It was agreed that clause 2 carry.
It was agreed that the title carry.
It was agreed that the bill carry.
It was agreed that the chair report Bill S-230 to the Senate.
At 5:57 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
