The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day at 11:30 a.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Peter M. Boehm, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boehm, Coyle, Deacon (Ontario), Dean, Housakos, MacDonald, Marwah, Ravalia and Richards (9).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senator Ataullahjan (1).

Participating in the meeting: Nadia Faucher, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, the committee began its consideration of Bill S-225, An Act to amend the Prohibiting Cluster Munitions Act (investments).

WITNESSES:

The Honourable Senator Salma Ataullahjan, sponsor of the bill.

Mines Action Canada:

Paul Hannon, Executive Director;

Erin Hunt, Co-Director (by videoconference).

Global Affairs Canada:

Angelica Liao-Moroz, Acting Director General, International Security Policy;

Ashlyn Milligan, Deputy Director, Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Division.

The Honourable Senator Ataullahjan made a statement and answered questions.

Paul Hannon and Erin Hunt made a statement together and answered questions.

At 12:28 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 12:34 p.m., the committee resumed.

Angelica Liao-Moroz made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:55 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
