The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day at 11:29 a.m., in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Peter Harder, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boniface, Cardozo, Coyle, Deacon (Ontario), Greene, Harder, P.C., MacDonald, Ravalia, Richards and Woo (10).
Participating in the meeting: Nadia Faucher and Brian Hermon, analysts, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 10, 2022, the committee continued its study on foreign relations and international trade generally. (Topic: Situation in the Red Sea)

Alexandre Lévêque, Assistant Deputy Minister, Europe, Arctic, Middle East and Maghreb;
Eric Laporte, Executive Director, Security and Defence Relations.
Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces:
Major-General Greg Smith, Director General, International Security Policy.
Alexandre Lévêque and Major-General Greg Smith each made a statement and, together with Eric Laporte, answered questions.
At 12:24 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 12:30 p.m., the committee resumed.
