Pursuant to the order of the Senate of May 5, 2022, the Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, and with videoconference at 9 a.m. ET, the chair, the Honourable Robert Black, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Black, Deacon (Nova Scotia), Klyne and Simons (4).

Members of the committee present by videoconference: The Honourable Senators Jaffer, Marwah, Oh, Petitclerc and Ringuette (5).

Participating in the meeting: Tracy Amendola, Administrative Assistant, Committees Directorate; Ben Silverman, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate; Offah Obale, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 10, 2022, the committee continued its study on issues relating to agriculture and forestry generally. (Topic: The British Columbia Flood and Recovery Efforts)

WITNESSES (by videoconference):

Northwest Hydraulic Consultants Ltd.:

Monica Mannerström, Principal Flood Management Engineer;

Graeme Vass, Hydrotechnical Engineer.

Monica Mannerström made a statement and, together with Graeme Vass, answered questions.

At 9:45 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 9:46 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to discuss a draft report.

It was agreed that the committee allow the transcription of the in camera portion of today’s meeting, that one copy be kept with the clerk of the committee for consultation by committee members or staff present; and that the transcript be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, but no later than at the end of this parliamentary session.

It was agreed that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve any communications products on its study on issues relating to agriculture and forestry generally (topic: The British Columbia Flood and Recovery Efforts) on behalf of the committee.

At 10:14 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
