The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met in camera this day at 6:30 p.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Robert Black, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Black, Cotter, Duncan, Marwah, Petitclerc and Simons (6).

Participating in the meeting: Ben Silverman, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate; Offah Obale, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 10, 2022, the committee continued its study on issues relating to agriculture and forestry generally. (Topic: The British Columbia Flood and Recovery Efforts)

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee discussed in camera a draft report.

It was agreed that the committee allow the transcription of the in camera  meeting today, that one copy be kept with the clerk of the committee for consultation by committee members or staff present; and that the transcript be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, but no later than at the end of this parliamentary session.

It was agreed:

That the draft report, as amended, be adopted;

That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve the final version of the report, including the executive summary and the final design of the report, taking into consideration this meeting’s discussion, and with any necessary editorial, grammatical and translation changes;

That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to make decisions on behalf of the committee to publicize the report with the support of the Senate Communications Directorate, including determining the appropriate timing for tabling the report;

That the chair seek permission, at the earliest opportunity, to deposit an interim report with the Clerk of the Senate if the Senate is not then sitting; and

That the chair be authorized to table the report in the Senate or to deposit it with the Clerk of the Senate if the Senate is not then sitting, at the earliest opportunity.

At 7:14 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
