The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 9 a.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Paula Simons, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cotter, Duncan, Jaffer, Klyne, Mockler, Petitclerc and Simons (7).

Participating in the meeting: Offah Obale, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, the committee continued its study of the status of soil health in Canada.

WITNESSES:

Beef Cattle Research Council:

Andrea Brocklebank, Executive Director (by videoconference);

Reynold Bergen, Science Director (by videoconference).

CropLife Canada:

Pierre Petelle, President and Chief Executive Officer;

Ian Affleck, Vice President, Biotechnology.

Fertilizer Canada:

Cassandra Cotton, Vice President, Policy and Programs (by videoconference).

Andrea Brocklebank made a statement and, together with Reynold Bergen, answered questions.

At 9:56 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 9:58 a.m., the committee resumed.

Pierre Petelle and Cassandra Cotton each made a statement and, together with Ian Affleck, answered questions.

At 10:58 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
