The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 9:01 a.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Robert Black, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Black, Burey, Cotter, Jaffer, Klyne, Oh, Petitclerc and Simons (8).

Participating in the meeting: Natacha Kramski, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, the committee continued its study of the status of soil health in Canada.

WITNESSES:

Jo-Anne St. Godard, Executive Director (by videoconference).

Hansen Beef:

Colby Hansen, Owner/Operator.

Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss Association:

Asha Hingorani, President.

Canada Organic Trade Association:

Tia Loftsgard, Executive Director.

Canadian Canola Growers Association:

Roger Chevraux, Chair (by videoconference);

Dave Carey, Vice President, Government and Industry Relations.

Prince Edward Island Potato Board:

Greg Donald, General Manager (by videoconference);

Ryan Barrett, Research and Agronomy Specialist (by videoconference).

Derek Lynch, Professor, Faculty of Agriculture, Dalhousie University (by videoconference).

Jo-Anne St. Godard, Colby Hansen, Asha Hingorani, Tia Loftsgard and Derek Lynch each made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:05 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:11 a.m., the committee resumed.

Roger Chevraux and Greg Donald each made a statement and, together with Dave Carey and Ryan Barrett, answered questions.

At 11 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
