The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 9 a.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Robert Black, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Black, Burey, Cardozo, Cotter, McNair, Oh, Petitclerc and Woo (8).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senator Robinson (1).

Participating in the meeting: Sarah Yakobowski, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, the committee continued its study of the status of soil health in Canada.

WITNESSES:

National Farmers Union:

Stuart Oke, Co-owner of Rooted Oak Farm (by videoconference).

Andjelic Land Inc.:

Robert Andjelic, Chief Executive Officer.

British Society of Soil Science:

Jacqueline Hannam, President (by videoconference).

As individuals:

Katherine Aske, Farmer, Researcher, University of British Columbia (by videoconference);

Don Lobb, Farmer;

Penny Wensley, former National Soils Advocate, Government of Australia (by videoconference).

Stuart Oke, Robert Andjelic and Katherine Aske each made a statement and answered questions.

At 9:58 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:01 a.m., the committee resumed.

Jacqueline Hannam, Penny Wensley and Don Lobb each made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:57 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
