Pursuant to the order of the Senate of May 5, 2022, the Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met in camera this day in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, and with videoconference, at 6:30 p.m. ET, the chair, the Honourable Pamela Wallin, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Gignac, Marshall, Ringuette, Smith, Wallin and Yussuff (6).
Members of the committee present by videoconference: The Honourable Senators Busson, Loffreda, Massicotte and Moncion (4).
Participating in the meeting: Vincent Labrosse, Procedural Clerk and Debbie Larocque, Administrative Assistant, Committees Directorate; Edison Roy-César and Adriane Yong, analysts, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, the committee continued its consideration of the subject matter of those elements contained in Divisions 5, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17 and 30 of Part 5 of Bill C-19, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on April 7, 2022 and other measures.
Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee met in camera to discuss a draft report.
It was agreed that each committee member be allowed to have one staff member present during the in camera meeting.
It was agreed that the committee allow the transcription of today’s in camera meeting, that a copy be kept with the clerk of the committee for consultation by committee members and/or staff; and that the transcript be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, but no later than the end of this parliamentary session.
It was agreed that the draft report, as amended, be adopted, and that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve the final version of the report taking into consideration this meeting’s discussions, and with any necessary editorial, grammatical and translation changes required.
It was agreed that the chair be authorized to table the report in the Senate at the earliest opportunity.
At 7:44 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
