The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Commerce and the Economy met this day at 11:29 a.m., in room W110, 1 Wellington St., the chair, the Honourable Pamela Wallin, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Galvez, Gignac, Loffreda, Martin, Massicotte, Petten, Ringuette, Smith, Wallin, Wells and Yussuff (12).

Participating in the meeting: Brett Howard and Adriane Yong, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, September 18, 2023, the committee began its study of the Government Response to the fifth report (interim) of the Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Commerce and the Economy entitled: “The State of the Canadian Economy and Inflation”, deposited in the Senate on February 15, 2023.

WITNESS:

As an individual:

David A. Dodge, Senior Advisor, Bennett Jones LLP, and former governor, Bank of Canada.

David Dodge made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:56 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 12:57 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to discuss a draft agenda (future business).

At 1:15 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
