The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day at 9:15 a.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Josée Verner, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Arnot, Carignan, P.C., Gignac, Massicotte, McCallum, Miville-Dechêne, Sorensen, Verner, P.C. and Wells (9).

Participating in the meeting: Jesse Good, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 8, 2023, the committee began its examination of Bill S-234, An Act to amend the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (final disposal of plastic waste).

WITNESS:

The Honourable Senator Claude Carignan, P.C., sponsor of the bill.

The Honourable Senator Carignan, P.C., made a statement and answered questions.
