The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day at 9:15 a.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Rosa Galvez, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Anderson, Batters, Galvez, Gignac, Massicotte, McCallum, Miville-Dechêne, Sorensen and Wells (9).

Participating in the meeting: Raymond St-Martin, Procedural Clerk, Committees Directorate; Joëlle Malo, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 24, 2022, the committee continued its study on emerging issues related to the committee’s mandate. (Topic: Climate Change: Canadian Oil & Gas Industry)

John Moffet, Assistant Deputy Minister, Environmental Protection Branch;

Jacqueline Gonçalves, Director General, Science Reporting and Assessment, Science and Technology Branch ;

Lindsay Pratt, Director, Pollutant Inventories and Reporting, Science and Technology Branch;

Matthew Watkinson, Director, Regulatory Analysis and Valuation, Strategic Policy Directorate.

John Moffet, Matthew Watkinson and Lindsay Pratt answered questions.

At 10:50 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:53 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to discuss a draft agenda (future business).

At 11:06 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
