The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day at 9:15 a.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Paul J. Massicotte, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cardozo, Galvez, Massicotte, Miville-Dechêne, Sorensen, Verner, P.C., Wells and White (8).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senator McBean (1).

Participating in the meeting: Jesse Good, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, October 26, 2023, the committee continued its examination of Bill C-226, An Act respecting the development of a national strategy to assess, prevent and address environmental racism and to advance environmental justice.

WITNESSES:

Smith Law Droit Inc.:

Liam Smith, Lawyer.

Madeleine Redfern and Liam Smith each made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:44 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:45 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to discuss a draft agenda (future business).

At 10:49 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
