The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 6:45 p.m., in room W110, 1 Wellington St., the deputy chair, the Honourable Éric Forest, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Boehm, Bovey, Dagenais, Duncan, Forest, Gignac, Loffreda, Marshall, Moncion, Pate and Smith (11).

Participating in the meeting: Shaowei Pu and Sylvain Fleury, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, the committee continued its examination of the expenditures set out in the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024.

Glenn Campbell, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Investment, Partnerships and Innovation;

Janet Goulding, Assistant Deputy Minister, Community Policy and Programs Branch;

Gerard Peets, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy and Results;

Alison O’Leary, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Communities and Infrastructure Programs Branch.

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation:

Paul Mason, Senior Vice-President, Client Solutions;

André Charbonneau, Deputy Chief Financial Officer.

Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada:

Douglas McConnachie, Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Financial Officer, Corporate Management Sector;

Mark Schaan, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic and Innovation Policy Sector;

John Fox, Director General, Strategic Innovation Fund;

Vien Huynh-Lee, Director, Strategic Program Management, Strategic Innovation Fund.

Michelle Baron, Paul Mason and Douglas McConnachie each made a statement and, together with Glenn Campbell, Alison O’Leary, Janet Goulding, Mark Schaan, John Fox, Gerard Peets and André Charbonneau, answered questions.

At 8:40 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
