The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 6:45 p.m., in room W110, 1 Wellington St., the chair, the Honourable Percy Mockler, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dagenais, Forest, Galvez, Loffreda, MacAdam, Marshall, Mockler, Pate and Smith (9).

Participating in the meeting: André Léonard and Shaowei Pu, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 1, 2023, the committee began its consideration of Bill S-258, An Act to amend the Canada Revenue Agency Act (reporting on unpaid income tax).

WITNESSES:

Mark Mahabir, Director General, Costing and Budgetary Analysis.

Canada Revenue Agency:

Maxime Guénette, Assistant Commissioner, Chief Service Officer and Chief Data Officer, Service, Innovation and Integration Branch;

Cathy Hawara, Assistant Commissioner, Compliance Programs Branch;

Kelly Taylor, Director General, Research and Innovation Lab, Service, Innovation and Integration Branch;

Eric Ferron, Director General, Criminal Investigations Directorate, Compliance Programs Branch.

Yves Giroux and Maxime Guénette each made a statement and, together with Cathy Hawara, Kelly Taylor, Eric Ferron and Mark Mahabir, answered questions.

At 8:26 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
