The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 6:46 p.m., in room W110, 1 Wellington St., the chair, the Honourable Percy Mockler, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dagenais, Forest, Galvez, Gignac, MacAdam, Marshall, Mockler, Petten and Smith (9).

Participating in the meeting: André Léonard and Shaowei Pu, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, the committee continued its examination of expenditures set out in the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024.

Scott Davis, Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Financial Officer.

National Capital Commission:

Véronique de Passillé, Vice-President, Public, Legal and Corporate Affairs;

Tania Kingsberry, Vice-President of Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer;

James Yang, Director, Strategic Planning;

Alain LeQuéré, Chief, Financial Management.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada:

Marie-Claude Guérard, Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Management Branch;

Shawn Audette, Director General, Finance and Resource Management Services;

Liz Foster, Assistant Deputy Minister, Programs Branch;

Steven Jurgutis, Director General, Policy, Planning and Integration Directorate.

Richard Goodyear, Scott Jones, Véronique de Passillé and Marie-Claude Guérard each made a statement and, together with Andy Smith, Adam Burns, Steven Jurgutis, Liz Foster and Kate Ladell, answered questions.

At 8:18 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 8:21 p.m., the committee resumed.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 1, 2023, the committee continued its examination of Bill S-258, An Act to amend the Canada Revenue Agency Act (reporting on unpaid income tax).

It was agreed that the committee proceed to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill S-258.

It was agreed that the title stand postponed.

It was agreed that clause 1, which contains the short title, stand postponed.

It was agreed that clause 2 carry.

It was agreed that clause 3 carry.

It was agreed that clause 1, which contains the short title, carry.

It was agreed that the title carry.

It was agreed that the bill carry.

It was agreed that the chair report Bill S-258, without amendment to the Senate, at the earliest opportunity.

At 8:28 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
