The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 9 a.m., in room W110, 1 Wellington Street.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dagenais, Galvez, Gignac, Loffreda, MacAdam, Marshall, Pate and Smith (8).

Participating in the meeting: André Léonard and Shaowei Pu, analysts, Library of Parliament.

The clerk informed the committee of the unavoidable absences of the chair and deputy chair and presided over the election of an acting chair.

The Honourable Senator Smith moved that the Honourable Senator Gignac be the acting chair.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

The acting chair took the chair.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 8, 2023, the committee continued its examination of Bill C-241, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act (deduction of travel expenses for tradespersons).

WITNESS:

As an individual:

Tomi Hulkkonen, Business Manager, Local Carpenters Union and South-West Ontario Area Manager for the Carpenters Regional Council.

Tomi Hulkkonen made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:12 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:16 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to discuss a draft agenda (future business).

At 10:21 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
