The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 6:45 p.m., in room W110, 1 Wellington St., the chair, the Honourable Percy Mockler, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dagenais, Forest, Gignac, Loffreda, MacAdam, Marshall, Martin, Mockler, Pate and Smith (10).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senator Kingston (1).

Participating in the meeting: Shaowei Pu and André Léonard, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, the committee continued its examination of the Supplementary Estimates (B) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024.

Darlene Bess, Chief Finances, Results and Delivery Officer;

Jake Kennedy, Director General;

Martin Reiher, Assistant Deputy Minister, Resolution and Individual Affairs Sector;

Garima Dwivedi, Assistant Deputy Minister, Resolution and Partnerships;

Georgina Lloyd, Assistant Deputy Minister, Northern Affairs;

Mary Luisa Kapelus, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy and Strategic Direction.

Indigenous Services Canada:

Philippe Thompson, Chief Finances, Results and Delivery Officer;

Paula Hadden-Jokiel, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Regional Operations Sector;

Marc Sanderson, Assistant Deputy Minister, Education and Social Development Programs and Partnerships;

Keith Conn, Assistant Deputy Minister, Lands and Economic Development;

Candice St-Aubin, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, First Nations and Inuit Health Branch.

Darlene Bess and Philippe Thompson each made a statement and, together with Martin Reiher, Mary Luisa Kapelus, Paula Hadden-Jokiel and Garima Dwivedi, answered questions.

At 8:04 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 8:07 p.m., the committee resumed.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 8, 2023, the committee continued its consideration of Bill C-241, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act (deduction of travel expenses for tradespersons).

It was agreed that the committee proceed to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-241.

It was agreed that the title stand postponed.

It was agreed that clause 1 carry.

It was agreed that the title carry.

The chair asked whether the bill shall carry.

After debate, the question being put on the motion, it was adopted on the following vote:
