The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 9:01 a.m., in room W110, 1 Wellington St., the chair, the Honourable Percy Mockler, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Forest, Galvez, Gignac, Kingston, Loffreda, MacAdam, Marshall, Mockler, Ross and Smith (10).
Participating in the meeting: Shaowei Pu and André Léonard, analysts, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 8, 2024, the committee began its examination of the subject matter of Bill C-59, An Act to implement certain provisions of the fall economic statement tabled in Parliament on November 21, 2023 and certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 28, 2023.
WITNESSES:
Office of the Parliamentary Budget Officer:
Yves Giroux, Parliamentary Budget Officer;
Mark Mahabir, General Counsel and Director General, Costing and Budgetary Analysis;
Diarra Sourang, Director, Economic Analysis.
Yves Giroux made a statement and, together with Mark Mahabir and Diarra Sourang, answered questions.
At 10:20 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 10:27 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to discuss a draft report.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, the committee continued its examination of expenditures set out in the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024.
It was agreed that each committee member be allowed to have one staff member present during the in camera portion of the meeting.
At 10:47 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
