The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 9 a.m., in room W110, 1 Wellington St., the chair, the Honourable Claude Carignan, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Carignan, P.C., Dalphond, Forest, Gignac, Kingston, LaBoucane-Benson, MacAdam, Marshall, Pate, Ross and Smith (11).

Participating in the meeting: Shaowei Pu and André Léonard, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, February 26, 2024, the committee continued its examination of the Supplementary Estimates (C) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024.

Public Services and Procurement Canada:

Wojciech (Wojo) Zielonka, Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Financial Officer;

Alain Lagacé, Director General, Budget Planning and Financial Management.

Employment and Social Development Canada:

Karen Robertson, Chief Financial Officer and Senior Assistant Deputy Minister;

Brian Leonard, Director General and Deputy Chief Financial Officer;

Susan Ingram, Assistant Deputy Minister, Benefits Delivery Modernization, Program Strategy and Design;

Michael MacPhee, Assistant Deputy Minister, Temporary Foreign Worker Program;

Elisha Ram, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Income Security and Social Development;

Malcolm Saravanamuttoo, Director General, Citizen Services Branch;

Jonathan Wallace, Director General, Canada Student Financial Assistance Program.

Charl Van Niekerk, Wojo Zielonka and Karen Robertson each made a statement and, together with
Susan Ingram, Michael MacPhee, Elisha Ram, Brian Leonard, Alain Lagacé and Jonathan Wallace, answered questions.

At 11:02 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
