Pursuant to the order of the Senate of November 25, 2021, the Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, and with videoconference at 5:01 p.m. ET, the chair, the Honourable René Cormier, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Clement, Cormier, Dalphond, Mégie and Moncion (5).

Members of the committee present by videoconference: The Honourable Senators Dagenais, Gagné, Mockler and Poirier (4).

Participating in the meeting: Sara Gajic, Legislative Clerk and Laurie-Anne Spooner, Administrative Assistant, Committees Directorate; Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 10, 2022, the committee began its study matters relating to Francophone immigration to minority communities.

Eric Caron Malenfant, Assistant Director, Centre for Demography.

Jean-Pierre Corbeil, Adjunct Professor, Department of Sociology, Laval University;

Christophe Traisnel, Professor of Political Science, Arts and Social Sciences Faculty, University of Moncton;

Leyla Sall, Professor of Sociology, Department of Sociology and Criminology, University of Moncton.

Jean-Pierre Corbeil, Christophe Traisnel and Leyla Sall each made a statement and answered questions.

Laurent Martel made a statement and, together with Eric Caron Malenfant, answered questions.

At 7:03 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
