Pursuant to the order of the Senate of May 5, 2022, the Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day in room W110, 1 Wellington Street, and with videoconference, at 5 p.m. ET, the chair, the Honourable René Cormier, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Clement, Cormier, Loffreda, Mégie and Moncion (5).

Members of the committee present by videoconference: The Honourable Senators Dagenais, Gagné, Gignac and Poirier (4).

Participating in the meeting: Sara Gajic, Legislative Clerk and Laurie-Anne Spooner, Administrative Assistant, Committees Directorate; Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, the committee continued its examination of the subject matter of Bill C-13, An Act to amend the Official Languages Act, to enact the Use of French in Federally Regulated Private Businesses Act and to make related amendments to other Acts.

David Rheault, Vice-President, Government and Community Relations;

Marc Barbeau, Executive Vice-President and Chief Legal Officer.

Canadian Airports Council:

Chris Phelan, Vice-President, Government and Industry Affairs.

Raymond Théberge made a statement and answered questions.

At 6 p.m., the Honourable Senator Loffreda replaced the Honourable Senator Mégie as a member of the committee.

David Rheault and Chris Phelan each made a statement and, together with Marc Barbeau, answered questions.

At 6:55 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
