The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day at 4:01 p.m., in room W120, 1 Wellington St., the chair, the Honourable René Cormier, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Clement, Cormier, Dagenais, Dalphond, Gagné, Mégie, Mockler and Moncion (8).

Participating in the meeting: Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, the committee continued its examination of the subject matter of Bill C-13, An Act to amend the Official Languages Act, to enact the Use of French in Federally Regulated Private Businesses Act and to make related amendments to other Acts.

WITNESSES:

Public Service Alliance of Canada:

Alexandre Silas, Regional Executive Vice-President (by videoconference);

Rosane Doré Lefebvre, Communications Officer (by videoconference).

Association of Canadian Port Authorities:

Daniel-Robert Gooch, President and Chief Executive Officer.

Rosane Doré Lefebvre and Daniel-Robert Gooch each made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:28 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:30 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee proceeded in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).

It was agreed that senators’ staff be permitted to remain in the room during the in camera portion of the meeting.

At 5:51 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
