The Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights met this day at 4:01 p.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Salma Ataullahjan, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Arnot, Ataullahjan, Bernard, Gerba, Omidvar and Pate (6).

Participating in the meeting: Robert Mason and Martin McCallum, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 3, 2022, the committee continued its study of such issues as may arise from time to time relating to human rights generally. (Topic: Forced Global Displacement)

Janemary Ruhundwa, Co-Founder and Executive Director (by videoconference).

Immigrant Services Society of British Columbia:

Kathy Sherrell, Director, Settlement Services.

Dana Wagner, Co-Founder and Managing Director.

The Refugee Centre:

Abdulla Daoud, Executive Director.

As an individual:

Muzna Dureid, Advocacy and Partnership Manager, Nobel Women's Initiative and Member, Refugee Advisory Network of Canada (by videoconference).

Janemary Ruhundwa and Muzna Dureid each made a statement and answered questions.

At 4:46 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 4:49 p.m., the committee resumed.

Kathy Sherrell, Dana Wagner and Abdulla Daoud each made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:44 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:47 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to discuss a draft agenda (future business).

At 6 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
