Pursuant to the order of the Senate of November 25, 2021, the Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met in camera this day in room W110, 1 Wellington St., and with videoconference at 2:30 p.m. ET, the chair, the Honourable Ratna Omidvar, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bovey, Dasko, Griffin, Harder, P.C., Kutcher and Omidvar (6).

Members of the committee present by videoconference: The Honourable Senators Lankin, P.C., Moodie, Patterson, Petitclerc, Poirier and Verner, P.C. (6).

In attendance: Andrea Mugny, Procedural Clerk, Lori Meldrum, Administrative Assistant, Committees Directorate; Laura Blackmore and Laura Munn-Rivard, analysts, Library of Parliament; Michael Forian, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, December 2, 2021, the committee continued its examination of the subject matter of Bill C-3, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the Canada Labour Code.

It was agreed that each committee member be allowed to have one staff person present at in camera meetings, unless otherwise agreed to by the committee for the duration of the parliamentary session.

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee discussed in camera a draft report.

It was agreed that the response received by the Honourable Senator Patterson from the Office of the Minister of Labour regarding outstanding questions on Bill C-3, be filed as an exhibit (Exhibit 1140-1.44/SOCI-SM-C-3, 1).

It was agreed that the draft report, as amended, be adopted, and that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve the final version of the report, taking into consideration this meeting’s discussions, and with any necessary editorial, grammatical and translation changes required.

At 3:43 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
