The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 11:31 a.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Ratna Omidvar, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bernard, Brazeau, Burey, Cordy, Cormier, Dasko, Mégie, Moodie, Omidvar, Osler and Seidman (11).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Boudreau, Cardozo, Kingston and Senior (4).

Participating in the meeting: Mayra Perez-Leclerc and Diana Ambrozas, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, the committee continued its study of Bill C-64, An Act respecting pharmacare.

WITNESSES:

Emmanuelle B. Faubert, Economist (by videoconference);

Daniel Dufort, President and Chief Executive Officer (by videoconference).

Steven G. Morgan, Professor, School of Population and Public Health, University of British Columbia (by videoconference);

Marc-André Gagnon, Associate Professor, School of Public Policy and Administration, Carleton University;

Steven G. Morgan, Marc-André Gagnon and Matthew Herder each made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:28 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 12:32 p.m., the committee resumed.

Nikolas Barry-Shaw, Daniel Dufort and Eddy Nason each made a statement and, together with Emmanuelle B. Faubert, answered questions.

At 1:23 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
