The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4 p.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Ratna Omidvar, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bovey, Cordy, Dasko, Deacon (Ontario), Kutcher, Martin, McPhedran, Moodie, Omidvar and Petitclerc (10).
Participating in the meeting: Laura Blackmore, Analyst, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 3, 2022, the committee began its consideration of Bill S-246, An Act respecting Lebanese Heritage Month.
WITNESSES:
The Honourable Senator Jane Cordy, sponsor of the bill;
Lena Metlege Diab, Member of Parliament for Halifax West.
As an individual:
Wadih Fares, Honourary Consul of Lebanon in Halifax (by videoconference).
The Honourable Senator Jane Cordy, Lena Metlege Diab and Wadih Fares each made a statement and answered questions.
At 4:53 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 4:54 p.m., the committee resumed.
It was agreed that the committee proceed to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill S-246.
It was agreed that the title stand postponed.
It was agreed that clause 1 carry.
It was agreed that clause 2 carry.

It was agreed that the bill carry.
It was agreed that the chair report Bill S-246, without amendment, to the Senate.
At 4:56 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
