The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met in camera this day at 11:33 a.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Ratna Omidvar, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bovey, Cardozo, Cordy, Dasko, Hartling, Kutcher, Moodie, Omidvar, Patterson (Nunavut) and Verner, P.C. (10).

Participating in the meeting: Laura Blackmore and Grégoire Gayard, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 10, 2022, the committee continued its study of matters relating to social affairs, science and technology generally. (Topic: The Role of Gender-based Analysis Plus in the Policy Process)

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee discussed in camera a draft report.

It was agreed that senators’ staff be permitted to remain in the room during the in camera meeting.

It was agreed that the committee allow the transcription of the in camera meeting today, that one copy be kept with the clerk of the committee for consultation by committee members and/or staff, and that the transcript be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, but no later than at the end of this parliamentary session.

At 11:35 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:36 a.m., the committee resumed.

It was agreed that the report, as amended, be adopted, and that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve the final version of the report, taking into consideration this meeting and last meeting’s discussions, including any necessary editorial, grammatical and translation changes required, along with the final design of the report.

It was agreed that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to make decisions on behalf of the committee to publicize the report with the support of the Senate Communications Directorate, including the appropriate timing for tabling the report.

It was agreed that the chair be authorized to table the report in the Senate or to seek permission to deposit the report with the Clerk of the Senate if the Senate is not then sitting, at the earliest opportunity, and to request a complete and detailed response from the government.

At 12:32 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
