The Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs met this day at 12 p.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable David Richards, presiding.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Anderson, Boisvenu, Deacon (Ontario), Richards and Yussuff (5).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senator Cardozo (1).

Participating in the meeting: Matthew Blackshaw, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 10, 2022, the subcommittee continued its study on issues relating to Veterans Affairs, including services and benefits provided, commemorative activities, and the continuing implementation of the Veteran’s Well-being Act.

WITNESSES:

Health Canada:

Shannon Nix, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Controlled Substances and Cannabis Branch;

Karen Reynolds, Director General, Pharmaceutical Drugs Directorate, Health Products and Food Branch.

Canadian Institute of Health Research:

Samuel Weiss, Scientific Director, CIHR Institute of Neurosciences, Mental Health and Addiction (by videoconference).

Public Health Agency of Canada:

Stephanie Priest, Acting Director General, Centre for Mental Health and Wellbeing (by videoconference).

Shannon Nix made a statement and, together with Karen Reynolds, Samuel Weiss and Stephanie Priest, answered questions.

At 12:10 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 12:11 p.m., the committee resumed.

At 12:57 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the chair.
