Diamond Jubilee Calendar

The Senate Chamber calendar commemorates the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II — the 2012 celebration to mark Her Majesty’s 60th anniversary on the throne. The Queen is the only sovereign who has twice delivered the throne speech in Canada’s Senate to open a parliamentary session.

The calendar’s design was inspired by the House of Commons’ table calendar, which was crafted in the 1920s by ironmaster and Centre Block artisan Paul Beau. The Senate’s version pays tribute to Canada’s British and French connections with engraved English roses and French fleurs-de-lis and honours the Queen’s milestone with her cipher and the Diamond Jubilee emblem. Wrought in gilded and patinated bronze, the calendar is topped by St. Edward’s Crown.

The Senate commissioned the calendar from Montréal-based artist Manuk Inceyan, using private funds donated by past and current senators and Senate officers and staff. The donors' names are inscribed on a plaque on the calendar.
