Senator’s Chair
With quiet dignity, these chairs have upheld the work of the Upper Chamber since the 1920s. They are a complementary companion to the senators’ walnut desks found in the Senate Chamber.
Both the chairs and the desks were designed by John A. Pearson, the chief architect of Parliament Hill’s Centre Block. Known for his attention to detail, Pearson sketched out many of the furniture pieces for the building to ensure they matched the overall architectural narrative of the structure.
The chairs are made of walnut and have leather upholstery with brass nails and bronze foot caps. One hundred and nine chairs were produced by Montréal’s Castle & Son — an accomplished firm chosen to manufacture several furniture pieces for Centre Block during that era.
