Proceedings of the Standing Committee on
Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration

Issue No. 1 - Evidence - November 5, 2015

OTTAWA, Thursday, November 5, 2015

The Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration met this day at 9 a.m., in public, for the consideration of administrative matters; and in camera for the consideration of administrative and other matters.

Senator Leo Housakos (Chair) in the chair.

[English]

The Chair: Good morning, everyone. Welcome. We will get right to business this morning with Item 1 on the public section of our agenda, adoption of minutes of proceedings of the September 24 meeting.

Senator Tkachuk: I so move.

The Chair: It has been moved by Senator Tkachuk. Is everyone all right with that?

Item 2: Colleagues, I'm very pleased to introduce to you Pascale Legault, who was hired this summer to be the new Chief Financial Officer of the Senate of Canada.

Welcome.

Pascale has many, many years of experience in the field, despite her youthful look. She has worked in a number of areas in terms of budgeting, internal controls and management systems. She has worked for the Canada Council for the Arts, and she was a financial manager at Citizenship and Immigration Canada. She also worked for a number of years for the Office of the Auditor General of Canada, but no one is perfect. Despite that, we still hired her. She also has experience in the private sector, having worked for Arthur Andersen.

After an extensive and long process, the committee engaged in hiring her was confident that she would bring new energy and some checks and balances to our financial operations in the Senate of Canada. So we're proud of the hire and we're proud to have her here going forward with our new approach to administrating the Senate of Canada.

Thank you and welcome.

If anyone would like to call Pascale before us to ask questions, by all means. If not, we'll move on.

We'll go now to the in camera session of the meeting, please.

(The committee continued in camera.)
