Proceedings of the Standing Committee on
Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration

Issue No. 15 - Evidence - October 19, 2017

OTTAWA, Thursday, October 19, 2017

The Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration met this day at 8:34 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-7(1), for consideration of financial and administrative matters.

Senator Leo Housakos (Chair) in the chair.

[English]

The Chair: Honourable senators, good morning.

I see Senator Carignan, who is here on behalf of Senator Marshall, is not used to a loud gavel.

[Translation]

Welcome, Senator Carignan. Also with us is Senator Boisvenu, who is replacing Senator Tkachuk.

[English]

I also want to welcome back Senator Campbell, who took a hiatus for a couple of meetings. He was away at some resort, but we’re happy he is back with us and healthy. Welcome back.

We’ll go to Item 1 on the agenda, the adoption of minutes of proceedings of October 3, 2017, the public portion.

If there are no questions, maybe someone can move the adoption.

It was moved by Senator Marwah. All in favour? Thank you, colleagues.

Senator Galvez, Item No. 2 is the post-trip report, the motion to be adopted. Everyone has received the details of the report of an international trip. We are looking for permission to table it in the Senate. It was on budget.

Could I have a motion in order to table that? I have a motion. Senator Forest, thank you. All in favour? Thank you.

Item No. 3 is a membership change motion. You all remember when Senator Campbell took his little vacation, he was replaced by Senator Saint-Germain on the Subcommittee of Estimates and the steering committee. Now he is back on those committees. I have a motion. Is anyone moving a motion to do that? Senator Saint-Germain. So the Honourable Senator Campbell replaces the Honourable Senator Saint-Germain as a member of the Subcommittee on Senate Estimates and the Senate Subcommittee on Budgets. Thank you, colleagues.

We’ll go in camera because we are dealing with HR and security issues. As is the practice when we are deal with HR and security issues, we do that portion in camera.

I need approval to go in camera, and I think we’ve agreed we will go in camera without staff present, except for three members of executive, for Item No. 5.

(The committee continued in camera.)
