The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day at 5:03 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Claudette Tardif, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bovey, Cormier, Fraser, Gagné, Maltais, McIntyre, Mégie, Mockler, Moncion and Tardif (10).

In attendance: Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Geneviève Sicard, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 6, 2017, the committee began its study on Canadians' views about modernizing the Official Languages Act.

WITNESSES:

Fédération de la jeunesse canadienne-française:

Justin Johnson, President;

Josée Vaillancourt, Executive Director.

Réseau de développement économique et d'employabilité:

Jean-Guy Bigeau, Chief Executive Officer;

Simon Methot, Youth Project Officer;

Sébastien Benedict, Manager, Government and Community Relations.

The chair made a statement.

Mr. Johnson made a statement and, together with Ms. Vaillancourt answered questions.

At 6:15 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 6:18 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Bigeau and Mr. Methot made statements and, together with Mr. Benedict, answered questions.

At 7 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
